Kia ora

My name is Rhiannon Galuszewski and I was born and brought up in Auckland, New Zealand. I am in my 30s and of Irish, English and Polish descent.

I currently work as a personal assistant in law and a traditional medium artist - but occasionally I dive into digital side quests.

My art is inspired by the environment I live in and the imagined stories I create. I like to bring a sense of childlike wonder, fantasy, storytelling and quirky characters to my work.

The Adventure

I have always gravitated towards the arts and nature. My last couple of years in high school were almost entirely in the arts department or library. I couldn’t decide on one art medium and so tried them all. At school, it included Photography, Fine Arts, Design, Music, Art History and various events. I also received the Fuji Xerox Cup for excellence in the arts at school.

I completed a Certificate in Arts and Design at Whitecliffe College with the intention of continuing into photography, however, I soon realised a preference for traditional mediums at a time photography was becoming heavily digital. I also started urban sketching on public transport, and carried around a sketchbook on the go (I still like to do this).

Later, I completed a Diploma in Digital Design (Film Production and Animation) at YOOBEE, as I wanted to explore how far I could go with storytelling. I gravitated towards storyboarding, scriptwriting and creative photography because it gave me full creative freedom to explore characters and their worlds.

In the Studio

Since then, I have worked on projects that have sparked joy and curiosity whilst also working in law. I tend to create in mixed media and I enjoy urban sketching or life drawing practice around these projects. I am currently working on illustrating a children’s book.
